Hi.

The demo "Bitter Reality" does not load further after it loaded the loader. The loader of this demo is located at the last few sectors of a medium density disk/atr.

It is not really a problem for me that this demo does not work, but I think it might be interesting WHY it does not work on sio2usb, and that might be something to improve (I'd say: sio2usb must be as compatible as possible)

If needed I could provide the non-working atr, but i think most people do have this demo in their collection.

We just tried the ATR available at Pouet with the SIO2USB version you mentioned below and it worked fine. Mabye it's really your ATR that causes the problem.

My point is more that I have an ATR of bitter reality that does work with sio2ide, sio2sd, ape and the emulators, and it does work from my 1050, when I save this atr back to a disk. But it does not work with sio2usb.

I do want to know why it does not work from sio2usb. Even with a problem with my ATR, It is strange that it works from all the other devices described above.

sio2usb does mount the atr. sio2usb does not give any error results. and the tool from thomas grasel does not give any errors.

Please take a look at this problem. It might be interesting, also in other cases.

I just compared the two images. The of Marius is not an image of an original as it seems. . In the original the boot loader has 3 blocks and the last block of the disk contains the number of the copy and the id of the receipient. For example "COPY#036-------- OWNER: SPITE OF AURA --------ENGLAND!-------- BITTER REALITY!--------WRITTEN FOR SHADOWS PARTY'94" in http://atari.fandal.cz/download.php?files_id=3504. This image runs fine with SIO2USB in the mentioned version.

In Marius image, the boot loader has only 2 blocks and the last block is empty. I have not checked what is different in the boot code, but maybe this helps a litte.

My 'point' is:

i'm not interested in a working atr of that demo.

I want to know why does MY atr work with any device, except sio2usb.

My idea of compatibility is, that whatever image works on a 1050 diskdrive, should work on sio2usb. and this on does not.

I wrote this atr back to a disk and it boots perfect on my 1050.
I wrote that 1050 disk back to a fresh atr on sio2usb and it does not boot.

That is strange, isn't it?

Ich habe das Problem, dass diese Demo nicht von meinem SIO2SD läuft. Aktuelle Version 3.1RC2. Der Bildschirm bleibt schwarz während er ein paar Sekunden lädt und dann mit Fragezeichen im Display abbricht. Ansonsten läuft jedes Programm bei mir (Spiel oder Demo) die ich bisher testen konnte... Ist das nur bei mir so oder kann das jemand nachvollziehen?

Nee, werde mir das mal auf meinem SIO2SD Version 3.1RC2 anschauen und berichten ob es läuft oder nicht. Könnte ja was mit der Geschwindigkeit oder dem SIO2SD Turbo zu tun haben (bei mir ist Turbo immer off, da er nur Probleme macht und vieles damit nicht läuft und ich keine Zeit/Lust habe rauszufinden, was damit geht und was nicht).

Versuche mal "TopDrive" in der Config vom SIO2SD abzuschalten. Das könnte helfen.

Topdrive ist ausgeschaltet. Habe schon mit allen Einstellungen rumgespielt...

So,

ausprobiert. Habe mehrere SIO2SD u.a. 2x SIO2SD von Pigula (ursprünglich Version 2.5, erfolglos von mir via Software auf 3.1 upgedatet, dann erfolgreich vom Rechnerdoc tfhh via Hardware auf Version 3.1RC2 upgedatet) und noch 2x SIO2SD/SIO2PC micro (ebenfalls mit Version 3.1RC2) von Santos.

Außerdem habe ich mehrere 800XL-Rechner (kein 400/800, keine XE`s oder XEGS):
- 2x 800XL mit 512k SRAM-Erweiterung von mega-hz, stereo-final von Lotharek und XL-OS + OLD-OS,
- 2x 800XL mit U1MB von Candle, simple-stereo von Candle, XL-OS + OLD-OS + XL-HiSpd-OS + MyIDE-OS 4.x,
- 3x 800XL im Originalzustand mit lediglich 64k RAM und XL-OS

Getestet bei 800XL mit 512k-SRAM-Erweiterung (=576k RAM) und stereo-on, Ergebnis:
1) SIO2SD von Pigula: a) Turbo off, SIO speed auf 126k (Pokey divisor 0/null), original XL OS: Die Demo läuft nicht, es tritt der von dir beschriebene Effekt auf, nach einiger Zeit erscheint ein Fragezeichen im Display; vermute mal, dass mit dem Highspeed-Patch von HiasSoft das Gleiche passieren würde...
b) Turbo off, SIO speed auf 68k (Pokey divisor 6), original XL OS: Die Demo läuft soweit ich sehe einwandfrei.

2) SIO2SD/SIO2PC micro: gleiches Ergebnis wie oben, a) läuft nicht, b) läuft

Vermutlich hängt es also an der eingestellten SIO-Geschwindigkeit, selbst wenn ein original XL-OS vorhanden ist, sollte die SIO Geschwindigkeit im SIO2SD nicht zu hoch eingestellt sein.

Wenn Bedarf besteht, kann ich die Demo auch noch mit U1MB und div. Konfigurationen testen...

Ich habe den Fehler gefunden. Anscheinend speichert das SIO2SD die Einstellungen erst nach einem Kaltstart (Stromunterbrechung) des Rechners. Pokeyteiler 6 eingestellt, Kaltstart und baff..läuft! Vielen Dank für deine (eure) Mühe.
