Your homeland is under an airborne attack! You are the only defense against the endless rain of enemy paratroopers. With each new mission the enemy steps up the intensity…nobody said this would be easy. As your orders become more and more challenging, you will be called upon to fight in a variety of changing terrain.
How long can you hold out against the enemy? How many missions can you complete victoriously?

GAME OBJECTIVE
Using the paddle controller to move your cross-hairs and fire your weapon, clear as many missions as possible by fulfilling your orders while preventing enemy paratroopers from landing.

A beacon of hope: High up on the mountain ridge, you will occasionally see a flashing beacon. By shooting the beacons you can power-up your gun-shot mode, progressing from sniper-shot, to burst-shot, up to automatic.

If 10 enemy paratroopers land on the ground, they destroy your gun base and the game is over. Watch out for enemy troopers targeting your gun base directly. If a trooper lands directly on top of your gun base the game is immediately over, regardless of how many landers are already on the ground.

Bonus missions: Each time you complete three consecutive missions the enemy planes will attempt to retreat. During the special bonus missions, your goal is to destroy as many enemy planes as possible and prevent them from escaping.

SAVE PROGRESS/HIGH SCORE
If write-access to disk drive one is available the high score will be saved for future gaming sessions. The mission level achieved during each new high score will be saved as well. As you complete more missions you will earn access to start new games on higher missions.

Of course you can play on actual Atari hardware or on emulator (capturing the mouse as paddle controller works great on Altirra and Atari800win), but we do want a screen shot or digital picture of your best score either way!

Please PM me with your highest score achievement (including screen shot or digital picture) by end of November 6th.

GOOD LUCK !!

Hmmm,

afaik the Abbuc PN / PM does not allow for any attachments, so you cannot post your highscore pictures there. But nevertheless, I want to start this highscore challenge now and simply post my R.o.T. highscore here...

R.o.T. Highscore: 49,500 points
Level/Mission: 2

As you can see, my highscore is quite low and thus easy to beat !!
So come on Abbuc guys, post your highscore here and with some luck you gonna win some prizes...

Sidenote: Please ignore the gfx anomaly in the title, it it definitely NOT in the game ! I took a photo from my tv and the strange gfx you see in the title is just a reflection from the window...

OK ALL!! Just a reminder, you have one more week to rack up your best scores and post your screenshots for the "RAIN OF TERROR High Score Challenge !!".

The challenge ends at the end of November 6th.

Your chance to win the very first boxed version of Rain of Terror, and we will throw in a set of atari paddle controllers too.

Here's the link to the ATR file if you still need to download the game (it includes a README.TXT version of user manual)
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/258275-rain-of-terror-atr/?p=3616829

Adding a PDF version of the user manual here which might be helpful

So if you haven't gotten your paddles out of storage yet... get off your butt and dig them out ! :P
(...or use PC emulation with a mouse, that's fine too! )
