Atari original Steve Bristow has passed away
Steve Bristow, one of the earliest Atari employees in the 1970s, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, according to Atari archivist Marty Goldberg.

Bristow helped with Computer Space, the 1971 commercial arcade video game that pre-dated Pong and later moved on to become one of Atari's earliest employees. Along with Joe and Patricia Keenan, Bristow "left" Atari for a short time to form Kee Games, an Atari competitor created by Atari itself in order to increase coin-op market share. Among the games created by Kee Games was Tank, later converted to Combat, the famed pack-in title during the hey day of the Atari Video Computer System, later sold as the Atari 2600.

Upon the merger of Atari and Kee, Bristow oversaw Atari's Coin-Op Engineering interests and later moved on to oversee various Atari consumer product departments before leaving the company in 1984. He continued to work as an electrical engineer after his exit.

"Steve was a very nice guy and a good friend," Atari co-founder Ted Dabney told Goldberg. "I have no words to express my shock and sadness."
