ich kann das gut nachvollziehen. Ich habe gerade einige Platinen bekommen, darunter 1x Atari NUC und einige XF551 Remake Version B. Wenn ich mir nun existierende Warenkörbe anschaue muß ich feststellen, daß irgendwie die Hälfte der Bauteile schon nicht mehr oder kaum noch zu kriegen ist. Mouser hat z.B. offenbar nicht mal mehr DIP Präzisionssockel ...

Die Anzahl der Bauteile für die Megaspeedy hält sich einigermaßen in Grenzen, das Projekt könnte also überschaubar sein. Okay, der XILINX mit dem Pinmaß, das übersteigt meine Lötkünste.

Switch:

I guess you cannot use a coded switch, you need a up and down counter as far as I know.

Plus it cannot be just turned left and right but also be pushed to activate the setting.

I guess this thing can be ommited but you will require the reset button at least so you can reset the MegaSpeedy to Flasher upon start and then select the firmware via its menu.

Hi Erhard,

You have totally right. I didn't realize that shown encoders is hard coded and chosen value is represent by DEC/HEX state on PINs.. We need to have steps information with C.W nad C.C.W direction...

I ordered a few encoders to check which will be best for project... At this moment I decided to use the standardized one. Additional thing I added is write protect button with LED indicator. PCB is little bit longer but I plan to print front cover (as replacement part for original one). If anybody has a notice or advice, please let me know :-)

maybe someone wants a drive ID switch as well.

I'ld prefer a 3 digit 7-segment display. The leftmost one should replace the three density LEDs. Use the lower, middle or upper bar to show density. The dot or vertical bars could visualize the write protect state.

How hard would it be to expand the drive numbers that can be selected from 1-4 to 1-8? The 1050 can do that if you patch the firmware, but what if we could somehow trick the drive into believing it responds to 1-4 but in reality it responds to 5-8? That way you don't have to patch all the firmware versions inside (1050, Happy, Speedy, etc.) but you'd still be able to use D1: through D8:.

I'm not sure it's easy. Any software stored in the ROM should be patched, and probably software dedicated to Atari as well. I imagine each firmware running independently on each other... I'm just wondering because I don't think I can do it.

Allowing D1: to D8: would require on more input line in the 6532 and it would require firmware patches.

Modifying things so the drive can be addressed via D5 to D8 cannot be done with electric tricks, you will have to modify the firmware, but you won't need one more 6532 input line.

Piotr Bugaj aka "zaxon" does very interesting things, but sometimes without barriers, like the author's property, and sometimes on the Atari forum, especially in Poland, we have a kind of war because of unethical practices... I don't like it... I usually ask authors before making a replica, and I never do it for commercial sale. Of course, it is possible to make a replica for interested people, but always with the authors' consent. This is my main rule.

The sentence in the screenshot shown refers to the question asked in an ironic way and more or less means "what is the formal status of MS? Because I am not going to listen to shitty comments...."

Pretty finished... Looks like the original, but I added a few modifications and rerouted some wires. Changed outlines to be compatible with standard KiCAD, added one capacitor under SRAM... It should be 1:1 compatible with the original PCB as I tried to have almost the same component positions. While working, I found a few minor issues in the schematic and PCB design, but all of them do not affect the main working of MegaSpeedy, so I must say: VERY GOOD WORK guys (MegaHz, Hias, Guus and everyone involved in the project) - this is a beautiful piece of hardware! :-)

Special thanks to FloppyDoc - as a colleague, he helped me collect all the data and advised me on many topics!

If the test on the new PCB goes well, I will make all the data available for you to use.

Does it use the same components like the original version, which Guus assembled?
Yesterday someone said, that one of the components is not available anymore. I didn´t check, but if that is the case, a redesigned PCB won´t be useful.

A few components production was discontinued e.g. XC95144XL-TQ100 or SOIP-32 SRAM but these are still available on the market. I changed high speed diode from PMLL4153 to LL4148 because it's cheaper and easy to buy and has very similar electrical ratings. There is no one component which are not available now...

Please note that you must use an angled connector for SV1 - otherwise things wouldn't fit below the mechanics when the plug is connected to SV1.

Please note that on the pcb's lower side there is an empty IC socket (high precision contacts) soldered to the board which then is equipped with those high precision dual pins afterwards.

as i made the original PCB Layout for the Mega-Speedy i also have the Eagle-Files.
Here are the files....
The officel Version of Mega-Speedy uses a 95144, only the first Prototype first used a 9572.

Thank you so much for files. I'll use these files as reference as well as from Guus and Hias source. I was little bit surprised when I saw 9572 on PCB-layout but doubt was solved quickly during discussion with FlopyDoc. Do you remember why you changed 9572 to 95144? Was logic array too small? I'm asking because I've a couple of 9572 chips. I'm wondering to use these chips (if it's possible) for version without serial Centronics.. I don't know maybe 9572 will be enough for it?

perfectly correct. Though I wouln't use that old leaf-spring-socket to plug-in the MegaSpeedy. In my 1050 I replaced the socket on the 1050 pcb with a high-precision one.

Thank you Erhard for confirmation.

I checked schematic and PCB delivered by Wolfram... it's look perfectly! The issues which I found earlier are not existing on provided design. Please look on attached pictures. Just cosmetic changes on my side were made :-)

What I'm changed:
- added capacitor close to FLASH memory,
- relocated a few resistors and show description on soldermask,
- flip to bottom side capacitor under 65c02 to avoid mechanical conflict with socket,
- expose all components description,
- added cut layer for XTAL,
- added GND polygons.

From logical point of view I swapped A15-A18 signals for SRAM - now it's like A15-A15, A16-A16,..., It's doesn't matter for working device but I love good order :-)

Schematic, PCB-design and gerbers are attached.

I need to a while to present changes on DISPLAY module....

please make sure that the holes are not too small for the components (pin rows, IC sockets and stuff).

When I populated my XL-remake the soldering points and the holes within were really tiny ...

Thank you for notice. I tried to use standard components as usually. We will see soon, PCB is under production. In mid time, my colleague KKRYS is working on front panel design - to avoid damage the original one.
