Floppy Disk Service
Welcome to the ABBUC Floppy Disk Service

Is your 1050 or 810 acting up?
In most cases, the Floppy Service can help.
Various replacement parts are available new, and if a part isn’t available new, we can always salvage parts from our repair inventory.
Of course, the Floppyservice is all the more happy to help if the 1050 or 810 hasn’t been further damaged by inexperienced hands. With those old circuit boards from way back when, a solder joint - or even an entire trace - can easily be torn off, and fixing such damage usually takes many times longer than it would have taken to fix the actual problem.
So please, after making arrangements, take your device directly to the Floppy Disk Service for repair, okay?
At this point, I’d like to provide some information for those who wish to use The Floppy Disk Service.
In the past, the contact information may have been a bit hard to find, and for some, the “Who’s Who” section of the ABBUC website was too inconspicuous.
But that’s exactly where you’ll find all contact options sorted by topic, including those for the Floppy Disk Service.
I’ll receive your email through the Floppy Disk Service’s address at ABBUC, so we can discuss the problem and exchange any other necessary information.
If the floppy drive is to be sent to me for repair, the following rules apply:
- The floppy drive must be shipped in its original, securely screwed-shut case and should not contain any loose parts.
Shipping services don’t always handle the items they transport very gently, and if, for example, the mechanical parts are loose inside the case, they’ll break everything during transit. - Pack the floppy drive well-padded in a sufficiently large and sturdy cardboard box.
If you use Styrofoam chips or other crumbly packing material as padding, the drives must first be placed in a plastic bag; otherwise, all the crumbs will end up inside the drive. - Speaking of crumbs. Please clean the inside of the floppy drive a little with a vacuum cleaner if necessary.
I’ve received drives with centuries’ worth of dust from the attic or with dead spiders inside, and since I suffer from arachnophobia... :-) - As a rule, I don’t need data cables or a power supply.
The power supply only needs to be sent to me if there’s a suspicion that something is wrong with it. However, since floppy drive power supplies don’t contain any electronics, they generally don’t break. - Please include a description of the problem and a return address.
We’ve already discussed the suspected defect via email, but this makes the process much easier for me. - I will always send the return as an insured DHL package.
Feel free to include a prepaid DHL return label with the floppy drive.
May your drives remain in good working order.
