A Chip called „FREDDIE“ was used at some systems to enhance system usage and performance.
Freddie was an MMU (Memory Management Unit), this chip would have allowed BOTH the CPU and the ANTIC chip to independantly access different areas of memory for their own use. This mean, that using the 1090XL expansion box containing one or more of the available 64 KB memory modules would allow the CPU to access memory for programs (up to 64K) and the ANTIC could access up to 8K or more if needed to display graphics.
Ein Chip namens „FREDDY“ wurde in einigen Systemen eingesetzt um das System zu erweitern und zu beschleunigen. FREDDY ist eine MMU (Memory Management Unit) die der CPU und ANTIC die unabhängige Kontrolle über verschiedene Bereiche des Speichers erlaubt. Dies ermöglichte bei Einsatz der 1090XL Erweiterungs Box unter Verwendung einer oder mehrerer Speichererweiterungen, dass die CPU bis zu 64 KB Speicher für Programme und ANTIC 8KB oder mehr (für Grafik) verwenden konnten.
